DID YOU KNOW? The first Labor Day was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882 in New York City, sponsored by the Central Labor Union. In 1884, the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday and the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a "workingmen's holiday" on that date. The idea spread and in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the country. Through the years the nation gave increasing emphasis to Labor Day. On June 28, 1894, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories.
RENAISSANCE SALES As of August 23, 2002, 196 units have been sold. This figure represents 80% of the total sold.
DRY CLEANING SERVICE Did you know that Cove Cleaners has a dry cleaning service for the residents of the Renaissance? They offer free pick up and delivery on Tuesday and Friday. See the concierge for details.
OWNERS TO ASSUME CONTROL The Renaissance condominium documents specify that the Wynnton Group will relinquish their majority control of the Board of Directors four months after 75% of the apartments have been sold and conveyed. That point was reached on August 12, 2002, when the sale closed on the 183rd apartment.
As a result, in mid-December 2002 the Wynnton Group will turn over control of the Renaissance Homeowner's Association to the Owners, who will elect new members to the Association Board of Directors (which will be expanded from three to five members).
One developer representative will remain on the Board until 95% of the Renaissance apartments have been conveyed. The Developer will continue to have access to all Renaissance common elements for the marketing and sale of Renaissance of Sarasota apartments until the final unit has been sold.
Additional details about the turnover can be read on the Resident Web Site at http://RenCondo.homestead.com
MOVIE NIGHT The movie for this month is "Shallow Hal". Jack Black is Shallow Hal, a superficial skirt chaser, who, after a mind-altering experience with a self-help guru, doesn't realize that his gorgeous girlfriend (Gwyneth Paltrow) is actually a 300-pound not-so-hottie. Meanwhile, Hal's playboy pal is determined to break the spell before someone gets squashed. It's packed with loads of laughs and non-stop fun. It's the biggest love story ever told! The movie will be showing in the media room on Thursday, September 5 at 7:30 p.m. Popcorn and sodas will be provided.
RESIDENT WEB SITE The residents' web site is an independent information resource for owners, residents and anyone interested in the Renaissance of Sarasota. Visit the web site at http://RenCondo.homestead.com.
LOADING DOCK If you plan on moving in or receiving a trucked delivery, remember to schedule a time with the Management Office. Trucks with scheduled deliveries have had to wait while unscheduled deliveries unloaded. Advanced scheduling will ensure availability for everyone.
RECYCLABLES Recycling containers are located on the ground floor at the service elevator. These containers are for paper, plastic bottles, brown, clear, and green glass and aluminum and metal cans. Cardboard is not recycled in Sarasota. You can bring all empty cartons to the service elevator lobby and our staff will dispose of them.
Please wrap all trash in plastic bags. Unwrapped trash may cling to the walls of the trash chute and can result in odor problems and pest infestation. If you see that the red light on the trash chute door is illuminated, it indicates that someone on another floor is using the trash chute and the doors on all other floors will be temporarily locked. Wait a few moments until the light goes out and you will then be able to open the chute door. Please do not leave anything on the floor of the chute room. Thank you for your cooperation.
POOL AREA We have noticed a number of residents walking through the Club Room in wet bathing attire, and with bare feet. For everyone's safety, and to protect wood floors from damage, please dry off before entering the building, wear foot covering, and use either of the two doors on the West Side of the building adjacent to the exercise room when leaving the pool area.
OCTOBER FESTIVITIES A resident get-together will be held in late October. Many of our residents will be returning from their summer homes and old friendships can be renewed. Within the next few weeks we will announce details of the festivities.
MANAGER'S CORNER
WORK IN PROGRESS Landscaping: In early September, our landscaper will remove a dead palm tree in the courtyard and replace it with another tree located on the property.
Lobby Floor: Beginning August 28 through September 6, the travertine floors on the 1st floor, penthouse floor and the elevators will be cleaned. All holes will be filled and the floors will be diamond ground, honed, polished and sealed. A majority of the work will be completed in the late evening.
Security Gate: In our last Newsletter we advised that we would have two garage gates instead of one large gate. The contractor advised that due to the single hydraulic gate operator, we could not have a split gate. We have contacted another gate supplier who will provide the association with a proposal to install an additional operator and two gates with all necessary hardware.
Window Washing: Weather permitting, window washing will begin the week of September 23rd.
