THE RENAISSANCE NEWS NOVEMBER, 2003
HOLIDAY DECORATIONS Wreaths The Board of Directors has established guidelines for the use of seasonal wreaths, door ornamentation and religious symbols attached to doors and door-frames. Holiday wreaths (not exceeding 18 inches overall) may be displayed on doors for one week before and after a traditional U.S. or religious holiday. No permanent attachment is permitted (no nails, tacks, screws). Over-door hangers or hooked on to the door- knocker are the recommended methods. Small, inconspicuous religious icons such as the traditional Mezuzah may be attached to the vertical exterior door-frame by double-faced tape. No screws, nails or permanent attachment may be made to the frame.
Door Bells The Board has approved the installation of wireless door bells on apartment door frames provided that they are no larger than 1.5 inches high, 1 inch wide, and .75 inches deep; white or gray in color; located on the door frame at approximately the level of the door knocker and on the same side as the latch; and that they do not interfere with any other doorbell or electronic equipment. Before installation (double faced tape only, no nails, screws or other permanent attachment) each doorbell must be programmed to one of the available 128 unique security codes so interference with another doorbell is minimized. Use of the "default" security code is not permitted - you must select another random code setting on your pushbutton and receiver units to prevent interference with other doorbells in the building. A variety of wireless doorbells are available at major hardware stores. Plug-in main units are usually considered more practical then battery powered versions.

RETURNING AND DEPARTING SEASONAL RESIDENTS If you have been away and are returning to the Renaissance, be sure to notify the Concierge that you have returned so Association records can be updated. If you neglect to inform the Association of your return (or your departure for extended absences) you may not receive important condominium mailings and notices. During extended absences, residents should always file a temporary address change with the U.S. Postal Service so their mail follows them.
RENTALS As a reminder, if you rent your apartment your tenant must complete a Tenant Application form and pay a $100 processing fee to the Association. Only three rentals are permitted within one year, and rentals must be for at least two months. The Association is required to know who is living in every unit in the Renaissance, and unregistered tenants run the risk of being denied entry to the building unless they have registered and pay the processing fee. We are also required by The City of Sarasota to have a current list of all Renaissance residents in case of an emergency.
CHILDREN IN THE SPA Children under the age of 14 should not enter the spa because of safety and health concerns. The spa may not be used as a children's pool, even if an adult is in attendance. Young children's bodies cannot tolerate the temperatures of spas and hot tubs, and most authorities strongly urge that they be excluded.
SWIMMING POOL When you visit the swimming pool or spa you need to wear appropriate clothing and shoes as you pass through the halls. That means a robe, sweatshirt or other top, and NO bare feet in the halls. Proper attire and footwear is always required in the halls and elevators of the Renaissance. Children must be toilet trained in order to use the swimming pool. "Swimming" diapers are not considered reliable and are not appropriate for use in the Renaissance pool. A diaper "accident" can result in the complete closure of the pool and an expensive and time-consuming sanitization. Please use good judgment when bringing small children to the swimming pool area. The spa is not to be used by children under any circumstance. Pool temperatures have been raised to 83-83 degrees f. for the cooler months.
ELECTION 2003 On November 6, twelve candidates will compete for seven Director positions on the Renaissance Board of Directors. Please take the time to read the candidate information that was mailed to each owner, do your own research as to their qualifications and suitability to represent your interests on the Board, and return your ballot if you do not plan to attend the meeting. Two important proxy questions are also included in each vote package, and your Board of Directors and the Renaissance Finance Committee strongly urge you to vote to authorize the rollover of excess 2003 funds to the 2004 budget; and the use of the Cash Flow accounting method for funding Reserves. Please return the proxies even if you intend to attend the Owner's Meeting and Election on November 6, since it is critical that at least 123 owners vote in favor of these two initiatives or quarterly assessments will be significantly increased in 2004.
MOVIE NIGHT The November movie is "Charlie's Angels" starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu. Angels go head-to-head with Angel-Gone-Bad Demi Moore. Aided by trusty sidekick Bosley (Bernie Mac), these heavenly beauties really kick butt to reclaim rings encrypted with information about every person in the Federal Witness Protection Program.
