THE RENAISSANCE NEWS May 2003
BOARD OF DIRECTORS EXPANSION On April 15, 2003 the owners voted to authorize a change in the Renaissance Bylaws to permit expansion of the Board of Directors to "at least three but no more than seven persons, who shall serve staggered terms." Here are the vote totals:
Expand Board of Directors: 173 in Favor Staggered Terms: 169 in Favor
Your Board of Directors thanks all the owners who took the time to submit proxies or to vote on these important bylaw changes. At the Board of Directors meeting following the owners meeting, the Board voted to expand the Board of Directors to seven members for the annual election to be held in November 2003.
VEHICLE TOWING If you are illegally parked in a numbered garage space that is not assigned to you, your vehicle will be towed. Please remove all illegally parked vehicles from the garage no later than May 5, 2003 to avoid the cost and inconvenience of towing.
NEW BOARD DIRECTOR At their meeting on April 15, 2003, the Renaissance Association Board of Directors voted to appoint Dr. Robert Nerthling to replace Mr. Richard DiBello, the Association Secretary/Treasurer, who resigned his position because of an unexpected medical condition that would not permit him to devote sufficient time to perform his board duties. Dr. Nerthling received the next highest vote total at the February 2003 election and will serve for the remainder of Mr. DiBello's term, which ends at the next election in November 2003. The Board of Directors sincerely thanks Rich DiBello for his dedicated and inspired service to the Board, and wishes him a speedy and full recovery.
GARAGE EXIT SAFETY BUMP Residents will note the new yellow safety bump installed near the second level North garage exit door. Because of repeated incidents where vehicles have misjudged the distance to the gate as they wait for it to open, the door has been knocked off its track several times. The safety bump is intended to help drivers judge where to stop while they wait for the gate to open.
PET POLICY Owners who make their apartments available to renters or guests are reminded that the Renaissance Rules and Regulations do not permit renters or guests to bring pets onto the property. It is important that you make this restriction clear to your guests, rental agent, or potential tenants before they sign a lease or make plans to visit the Renaissance. In order for a rental to be approved by the Association, the lease or rental agreement must contain a pet prohibition clause.
WINDOW FILM Some residents have shown an interest in installing film on their windows in order to reduce the effects of UV radiation on fabrics and furnishings. Before you decide to install window film, you are reminded that the architectural guidelines require that any film or filtering material applied to your windows may not alter the color, density or hue of your windows in any way. Window film must be absolutely clear. You need to submit your plans, and a sample of the film, to the Association Architectural review Committee in order to obtain approval from the Board of Directors.
LEAVING ON VACATION, OR FOR THE SEASON? Please notify the Property Manager if you will be leaving for an extended absence so that any notices or correspondence from the Association can be mailed to you rather than left at your door. Please give the manager a call or send an E-mail note when you are preparing to leave, and when you return.
SPEEDING IN THE GARAGE Recently, there have been increasing complaints about speeding and irresponsible driving in the parking garage and on the ramps between each level. Residents are asked to drive slowly and carefully when in the garage, and to anticipate vehicles backing up, and pedestrians who may be crossing traffic lanes. Some residents have suggested that speed bumps should be installed in the garage. The Association would like to avoid the inconvenience and expense of installing speed bumps if the problem can be resolved by all residents slowing down and showing common courtesy.
MOVIE NIGHT The May movie is "Sweet Home Alabama" starring Reese Witherspoon, a New York clothing designer who suddenly finds herself engaged to the city's most eligible bachelor. This is no fairytale romance for Witherspoon who must first divorce her backwoods husband she married in high school. As she returns to her home in Alabama, she is determined to end their marriage and sever all ties with her past. The movie will be shown on Thursday, May 8th at 7:30 pm in the Media Room. Popcorn and sodas will be provided.
BOOK CORNER We are announcing the new Renaissance Book Corner. Please donate your used paperbacks, hard cover books, cook books and magazines to the second floor niche on the balcony overlooking the Club Room. Take a book and leave a book!
PARKING SPACE RENTAL If anyone is interested in renting his or her parking space, please notify the Management Office. We occasionally have residents asking for additional spaces to rent.
GAS GRILL The gas grill located on the pool deck is a popular asset enjoyed by many residents, but some users are not taking the time to tidy up the area and clean the grilling surface after each use, causing inconvenience to the next user. The Association has initiated a weekly maintenance program to disassemble and clean the grill. Individual users still must clean the grill surface and wipe food residue and grease from around the grill area. Tidy up tables and empty ashtrays after using them, and dispose of all trash. A new rubber mat has been placed in front of the grill to catch food and grease before it can stain the patio pavers. Your cooperation in keeping the grill area free of litter is appreciated.
EXERCISE ROOM EQUIPMENT Please do not leave any of the powered exercise equipment running if you get off for any reason. Injury can occur if another person is unaware that the equipment is in operation.
HVAC FILTERS We recommended that you change the filter in your air conditioner every two months in order for the system to run more efficiently. This is a simple do-it-yourself chore.
TOURIST TAX Any person who rents or leases any accommodation for six months or less must collect and pay 10% (state sales tax and tourist development tax) on the rent proceeds. Register with the Sarasota County Tax Collector (941-861-8300) and Florida Department of Revenue (1-800-352-3671). The tourist tax is due to the Tax Collector's office by the 20th day of the month following collection.
APARTMENT KEY POLICY If you lose or misplace your apartment key and need to enter your unit at night, weekends or holidays, you will need to contact a locksmith. The Renaissance Security Officers do not have access to apartment keys. Your alternative is to leave a spare key with a friend or neighbor to protect against the inconvenience and expense of being locked out. Part-time and seasonal residents are reminded to pack their apartment keys when returning to the Renaissance. The Renaissance Management Office does not give keys to contractors, realtors, friends or guests. If you are expecting someone to arrive while you are not in residence, you must provide the key, which you can leave at the Concierge Desk in a sealed envelope marked with the name of the person who is authorized to pick it up.
WINDOW WASHING The window washers will begin cleaning the exterior windows of the building on Friday, May 2, 2003.
