THE RENAISSANCE NEWS July 2003
New Fitness Center Committee Rich DiBello has been appointed chair of the recently established Renaissance I Fitness Center Committee. If you would like to help make our fitness center more user-friendly, safer, and better maintained, let Management know and we will have Rich contact you.
Dogs in Common Elements As a reminder, if your pet has an "accident" while inside the building or on adjacent walkways, please take the time to immediately remove the mess, and if appropriate, report the problem to the Security Officer or the Property Manager so that housekeeping personnel can remove any solid waste slip-and-fall safety hazards. Pets must be kept on a leash (reel-type leashes should be kept fully retracted) and under the close physical control of their owner while in any Renaissance I common areas (hallways, garage, peripheral walkways, and the like).
Owners Support Request for Special Amendment to Declaration of Condominium In a generous show of support, Renaissance I owners overwhelmingly responded to the request by Mr. Gary Majer to permit the separation of his two previously joined apartments back to individual units so that one of them can be sold. The change required the consent of a majority of the owners, but in this case, because of the persistence and personal involvement of Mr. Majer, a sufficient number of owners agreed to the change and the Board of Directors approved the amendment. Mr. Majer has asked us to pass on his sincere appreciation to all the owners who took the time to read, understand, and register their approval of the proposed amendment.
Summer Splash Party a Resounding Success The June Summer Splash party was an overwhelming success. Over eighty residents enjoyed delicious food, desserts, beverages, and had a great time socializing with their neighbors. This was the first event organized and planned by the Renaissance I Social Committee, and it was considered to have been a great success by everyone. Our sincere thanks to Sheila Radman, Marlene Cohn, Jeanne Sheldon, and Joanne Valenti for their hard work and the attention to detail that made this party a standout event on the Renaissance social calendar.
Common Area Wallpaper and Carpeting The Developer has agreed to repair, clean or replace the hallway carpeting and wall damage when Remediation is complete.
Leaving for the Summer? Consider the Apartment Inspection Program If you plan to be away from your apartment during the summer and want to have your unit checked periodically in your absence, you can set up an inspection schedule, or get additional details about the program from the Concierge or the Property Manager. You can also submit an inspection order over the Internet from the resident web site at http://RenCondo.com. Before you leave you might also want to check out the Vacation Checklist page on the resident web site.
Symphony Center the View Corridor Easement Most residents are aware of the discussions concerning the proposal to build a new Florida West Coast Symphony hall on land across from the Renaissance; the possibility that the symphony will leave the Cultural District and move to land being offered to them by Lakewood Ranch; and the issues surrounding the View Corridor Easement that protects the view and property values of Renaissance residents. The subject is being covered in the Sarasota press, and for those owners who are away for the season or who are overseas, there is a general summary of the issues on the resident web site at http://Rencondo.com.
Window Coverings All draperies, blinds or curtains at or over the windows or balcony doors of a unit must have a solid, light color exterior liner.
New Employees Join the Renaissance Team By now many of you may have noticed some new faces on our housekeeping and maintenance teams. Bill Rothe has joined the maintenance team after spending eight years at Beachplace on Longboat Key. Bill brings a wealth of experience to the Renaissance. In the past few months new employees include Roger Baldwin taking care of the outside, Yelany Riveron assisting in the Housekeeping department, and Joanne Lerer assisting Management at the concierge desk. We welcome everyone.
Close Your Vehicle Windows in the Garage During Hurricane Season With hurricane and tropical storm season upon us, please be sure to close your vehicle windows and convertible tops when parking in the garage. Wind-blown rain can enter the garage and could flood your vehicle if you leave the windows, T-tops or convertible tops open.
Hurricane Caution - Remove all Balcony Items If you plan to be away during the summer you are advised to remove balcony furniture and any other items that could become dangerous flying objects in a storm. The Association staff will be busy securing the common elements when a storm or hurricane is imminent and will not have the time to enter your apartment to remove dangerous unsecured items from your balcony.
Contractor Registration and Work Standards If you plan to have work done on your apartment by outside contractors they must register with the Concierge, Building Maintenance staff or Manager to schedule any work. All contractors must use the Service Elevator. Each contractor must be in possession of a copy of the Renaissance I Contractor Guidelines document. Contractors must reserve time at the loading dock, and must remove all trash from their work area each day (they may not use the trash chutes or the dumpsters located on Renaissance Master Association property). If work involves demolition or other dirt producing work, hallway carpets and walls need to be protected from damage (and protective coverings need to be removed each day at quitting time). Tile contractors must use approved sound cushioning material (which must be checked by Maintenance before tile is laid), and may not use dry or wet saws on the balconies or in any interior common element of the building.
Movie Night The July movie is "The Bourne Identity". Pulled from the sea with two bullets in his back, Jason Bourne discovers he has the skills of a very dangerous man and no memory of his violent past. Racing to unlock the secret of his own identity, he discovers the deadly truth: he's an elite government agent. Please join us in the Media Room on Thursday, July 3rd at 7:30 pm. Popcorn and sodas will be provided.
Fax Machine and Photocopier to be Moved to the Conference Room Until the Property Manager can move to permanent office space now occupied by the Michael Saunders Sales Team, and to relieve congestion and distractions in the Manager's office, the fax machine and the photocopier are being moved to the Conference Room. Most faxes can still be sent without charge, but faxes to international numbers will now require the use of a calling card.
Basketball Players at The Renaissance We're sure many of our residents have noticed the VERY TALL young men in the building. They are professional basketball players from teams such as The Washington Wizards, Atlanta Hawks, Toronto Raptors, Indiana Pacers, L.A. Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers. (I hope I haven't left any team out). The players are keeping in shape by attending a basketball camp in a nearby town. We sincerely hope that all players turn out just like "Michael Jordan", the writer's favorite! Welcome to all!
Remediation Update A few residents are still concerned about remediation of their unit. If you have not visited the Renaissance resident website http://RenCondo.com and read Chuck Bubeck's Remediation material, or have not been contacted by the Developer, you can contact either Wade Pickard (813)258-8887 (Ext 12) or the Developer's coordinator Sunny Barnes (941)954-8976 to find out when your unit will be remediated. After remediation is complete, you will receive a Clearance Letter that will attest that the remediation and subsequent air sampling and cleanup of the unit has been successfully performed.
Lightning Safety Tips Recently the National Weather Service issued a number of indoor lightning safety tips. During a storm, unplug appliances and avoid using telephones with cords. Also, avoid taking a bath or shower, washing dishes in the sink or running water. If you are outdoors and hear thunder, you are close enough to the storm to be struck by lightning. If you are boating or swimming, get to land and find shelter in a building or car. If you are in a car, keep windows closed, and avoid convertibles.
