DID YOU KNOW? On July 4, 1776, we claimed our independence from England and democracy was born. Every day thousands leave their homeland to come to the "land of the free and the home of the brave" so they can begin their American Dream. The United States is truly a diverse nation made up of dynamic people. Each year on July 4, Americans celebrate their freedom and independence with barbecues, picnics and family gatherings.
We hope this 4th of July will be a safe and memorable holiday for you and your families.
NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING A neighborhood meeting is scheduled for July 22 at 5:30 p.m. at the Police Department Substation located at 820 Central Avenue. The purpose of the meeting is for the developer to show the community the proposed development plans that will be submitted to the City for the second tower and additional live-work structures. A separate meeting for residents only concerning the same material will be held prior to the neighborhood meeting at the Renaissance in the Club Room on July 18th at 5:30 p.m. All residents are encouraged to attend this meeting.

DRINKING WATER REPORT Sarasota County Environmental Services routinely monitors for contaminants in your drinking water according to Federal and State laws. Drinking water samples taken in 2001 meets or exceeds all established standards. Substances which were detected were far below the Maximum Contaminant Level. A copy of the water quality report is posted on the bulletin board in the first floor alcove near the beverage and candy machines.
PETS Although this is a pet friendly building, some of our residents are frightened when a dog approaches. For the safety of all our residents, pets must be on a leash in the halls, elevators and any other common area of the building.
BIRDS We have noticed that several residents are placing food on the balconies for the birds to eat. It is not necessary to feed the birds because they have an abundant supply of vegetation and insects. Feeding the birds promotes nesting and infestation which can lead to building damage. We ask that you please discontinue feeding the birds.
MOVIE NIGHT The movie for this month is "Don't Say a Word" starring Michael Douglas. When the daughter of a prominent New York psychiatrist is kidnapped, his only hope for her safe return is to pry a 6 digit number from the memory of a troubled teenage girl and time is running out! The movie will be showing in the media room on Thursday, July 11 at 7:30 p.m. Popcorn and sodas will be provided.

MANAGER'S CORNER
WORK COMPLETED
8th Floor Lobby: After repeatedly cleaning the carpet in the lobby area of the 8th floor, the stains remained. In June, the carpet was replaced in this area. Now the 8th floor residents can enjoy the beauty of the new elevator lobby carpeting.
Exercise Room: A preventative maintenance program has been initiated for the equipment in the exercise room. Twice per year the equipment is cleaned, lubricated and inspected for necessary repairs. During the current inspection minor repairs such as buttons peeling and no heart rate displays will be corrected as quickly as possible.
WORK IN PROGRESS
Storm Shutters: We are investigating different types of hurricane shutters. One manufacturer has a window film that can be used in lieu of hurricane shutters. The clear film is placed on the inside of the window and meets or exceeds 120 mph wind speed requirements. We are gathering information on other systems and will keep you informed. Landscaping: The developer is continuing to work with the landscaper and the city to remove and relocate palm trees.
Pond: Management received the permit for two grass carp for the pond. The fish have been ordered and we should receive them in early July. The grass carp will eat the underwater vegetation and algae. We are also investigating dyeing the pond to slow the growth of vegetation while protecting our carp from birds and entering into a contract to control and prevent noxious aquatic weeds and algae.
Bar Code Access Reader: Management received proposals for the bar code access reader that would work with the existing gate access system. One company interviewed did not recommend changing the current system since the system we have is one of the latest on the market. One of our newest residents in law enforcement and security has volunteered to enlighten management with some of his ideas. We will keep you posted.
