The Renaissance News    December 2002

DID YOU KNOW?

CHRISTMAS is an annual Christian holiday commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.  Most members of the Roman Catholic Church and followers of Protestantism celebrate Christmas on December 25, and many celebrate on the evening of December 24 as well.  Members of the Eastern Orthodox Church usually delay their ceremonies until January 6, when they celebrate Epiphany, a commemoration of the baptism of Jesus.

HANUKKAH (which is Hebrew for "dedication") is an annual festival of the Jewish people which is celebrated on eight successive days.  It begins on the 25th day of Kislev, the third month of the Jewish calendar, corresponding, approximately, to December in the Gregorian calendar.  Hanukkah is also known as the Festival of Lights, Feast of Dedication, and Feast of the Maccabees.
For many people, the holiday season begins with the arrival of Santa Claus in the annual Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City.  Cities decorate their streets; stores fill their shelves; friends and relatives exchange holiday cards; and volunteers from the Salvation Army ring bells on city streets to solicit charity donations.

We would like to take this time to wish all our residents and their families a Happy Holiday Season!

MANAGER'S CORNER

WORK IN PROGRESS

Holiday Office Closing -  The Management Office will be closed on December 24 and 25 for the Christmas Holidays and will reopen on Thursday, December 26. A member of our maintenance staff will be available on December 24. The Management and Maintenance Offices will also be closed on Wednesday, January 1.

Keys for Contractors/ Deliveries - We cannot provide keys or accept deliveries for units expecting furniture deliveries, contractors or rental agents.  We do not have staff available to perform this function, nor can we release the building key to anyone.  If you will not be in your unit for an expected delivery, you may leave a key with the concierge along with a permission form authorizing entry to your unit and they will give the key to the delivery person, contractor, rental agent, etc.

Pet Owners -  A "Doggie Litter Bag" dispenser has been added to the wall in the service corridor at the pedestrian door leading to the Northwest walkway.  From the service elevator, you can exit the pedestrian door without a key, however you need to use your unit key to re-enter.  A trash receptacle has been provided adjacent to the door for the doggie "litter".

DVD Movies - There are two movies missing from our library.  If you have "Don't Say a Word" and "Score" in your possession, would you please return them as soon as possible so that other residents can enjoy them?
